Hyderabad: More than 200 students living in the Osmania University women’s hostel held a protest on campus, claiming that the hostel administration had been negligent in addressing unresolved issues. Around 50 male students also joined the protest in support of the women. The students claimed that several basic facilities in the hostel were inadequate, including insufficient lighting, a lack of proper sinks and washrooms, and not enough tables in the dining hall. They also alleged that they were not allowed to meet their parents outside of designated visiting hours. According to the students, multiple written complaints have been submitted to the authorities, but no action has yet been taken.“We have been raising these concerns for months, but nothing has changed. We are only asking for basic facilities and reasonable consideration,” said Satya, one of the protesting students. In response to the allegations, the hostel director, K Laxmi, stated that some of the students’ demands conflicted with established rules. “They want to stay out past midnight and they want us to allow their parents to stay on the premises. These rules were explained to them before they were admitted, and they agreed to adhere to them,” she said. She added that the administration was willing to examine issues related to facilities, but could not permit anything that might endanger the students.
