Digi push: Govt allocates Rs 225cr for UP AI Mission

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh govt allocated Rs 225 crore in the 2026-27 budget for its newly launched Uttar Pradesh AI Mission, announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the state’s AI conclave in Jan.The mission aims to position Uttar Pradesh as a national leader in artificial intelligence adoption, particularly in healthcare, where projects worth around Rs 2,000 crore will be implemented over the next 3 years to improve disease surveillance, predictive health models and real-time data-driven policymaking.

The overall allocation for the IT and electronics sector stands at Rs 2,059 crore, reflecting the govt’s emphasis on building a robust digital ecosystem. As part of this push, Rs 32.82 crore was earmarked in collaboration with the India AI Mission to establish AI Labs in 49 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state, as well as an AI Centre of Excellence and India AI Data Labs to spur research and skills development. In addition, the budget proposes a new Cyber Security Operations Centre with an allocation of Rs 95.16 crore to strengthen digital security infrastructure and protect critical systems. Officials said these measures are expected to boost technological adoption, enhance digital governance and create high-skill employment opportunities.
