Even Congress MLAs are not aware of trifurcation of GHMC, alleges BRS

Hyderabad: Taking objection to the trifurcation of GHMC extended areas, BRS whip and Qutbullapur MLA KP Vivekanand has said chief minister Revanth Reddy took decisions on important issues like the division of GHMC, and the earlier merger of the surrounding 27 municipalities into GHMC, unilaterally, without consulting Hyderabad stakeholders. He said even Congress MLAs were not aware of their own govt’s decisions.Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the BRS whip alleged that the CM did not want any decentralisation of powers through local bodies and did not want to conduct the elections to GHMC immediately. The MLA said when BRS was in power, GHMC elections were conducted on time, before completion of GHMC council term. The govt made a mistake by extending GHMC area up to the Outer Ring Road and committed another mistake by dividing the expanded corporation into three corporations, he stated.“The CM talks about a non-existent Future City and shows no concern for the existing city. He is exploiting the city for his personal gains without doing any good work in two years of Congress governance. The decisions were taken secretly without involving any stakeholders,” he added.Vivekanand said whenever there was any issue, the CM said the govt would take a decision after discussing it in the assembly. “Now, what stopped the govt from discussing such an important decision without debating it in the assembly?” he asked, and said even the trifurcation was not done scientifically and rural areas were made part of the big corporation. He said BRS would take up a public movement against the Congress govt’s decision.
