Jaipur: Even as municipal elections are fast approaching, Jaipur received lower-than-expected Budget allocations Wednesday, with the number of projects announced for the state capital being the lowest across the three Budgets presented so far by the current BJP govt.Deputy chief minister and finance minister Diya Kumari, while presenting the state Budget 2026-27, announced a limited set of projects for Jaipur. These include a new IPD tower at JK Lon Hospital on JLN Marg, a bio-gas plant, two treatment centres—one for avian diseases and another for wild animals—and an oxyzone. Officials said the biggest budget takeaway for Jaipur is a plan to make the state capital, along with all divisional headquarters, signal-free. “For this the state govt will spend more than Rs 2,300 crores for construction of flyovers, underpasses, RoBs/RuBs and projects related to parking. Of the allotted amount close to 50%, around Rs 1,000 crore, will be spent for Jaipur. The rest is for other divisional headquarters,” an official said. Jaipur will also get a Raj Sakhi centre, part of the Rajasthan Grameen Aajeevika Vikash Parishad initiative aimed at empowering rural women through Self-Help Groups by providing platforms to showcase handicrafts, textiles and other products. The Budget announced a space gallery and a children’s gallery in the Science Park in Shastri Nagar. A new central jail building has also been proposed for Jaipur, like those planned for Udaipur, Jodhpur and Alwar. On the health front, officials highlighted new investments, including the JK Lon Hospital IPD tower in addition to the IPD tower under construction at SMS Hospital. A Center for Excellence for Mental Health Treatment will be established at Sawai Man Singh Hospital to provide counselling and psychiatric care, an official said. The Budget also earmarked funds for city transport and upgrades to Jaipur’s sewerage network.
