Man steals from house of aunt’s employer, arrested

Bengaluru: A 31-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing gold ornaments and silver articles from the house of his aunt’s employer five months ago.The complainant, a single parent and resident of Thyagarajanagar, told police that around 250g of gold ornaments and 2.8kg of silver items kept in a cupboard in her daughter’s room went missing. The theft came to light on Oct 22 last year. Initially, the family suspected their domestic help, who worked with them for 25 years and had a spare key to the house.

However, a police team led by inspector Savitha traced the involvement of the helper’s nephew, Sharath, a school dropout who worked as a car cleaner. He lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his aunt. With his arrest on Jan 16, police recovered 24g of gold ornaments, 2.8kg of silver articles and Rs 1.3 lakh in cash.Sharath frequently visited the house on the pretext of dropping his aunt and helping with chores, and was familiar with the premises. He took the spare key from his aunt without her knowledge, entered the house when the family was out of the city and stole the ornaments, police said.
