Lucknow: A local court in Barabanki on Wednesday sentenced three men to life imprisonment in a 2016 murder over land dispute. Suraj (32) had fled from the courtroom after conviction on Feb 7 but was later arrested and was produced before court on Wednesday.Additional District Judge court awarded life imprisonment to Suraj, his father Matru and his uncle Gudar and fine of Rs 78,500 each and directed the total amount to be paid as compensation to wife of the deceased.On Aug 2, 2016, FIR was lodged at Subeha police station reporting Barsati being assaulted by Matru, Suraj, Gudar and Surjeet. Barsati later died during treatment, and a murder case was registered.During trial, Surjeet died. On day of final hearing, Suraj, out on bail, appeared in court with Gudar, while Matru was brought from jail. After conviction, Suraj slipped away around 3 pm.After a massive search operation, Barabanki CO Sangam Kumar traced Suraj and he was arrested from his in-laws’ residence in Amethi.
