Gurgaon: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a yellow alert for the city for Feb 16 and 17, warning of thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places. The city continued to record above-normal temperatures for mid-Feb.According to IMD data, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 25.8°C and a minimum of 12.9°C on Wednesday, both above the seasonal average. The minimum was 2.2 degrees higher and the maximum 0.3 degrees lower than Tuesday’s readings of 10.7°C and 26.1°C, respectively. Forecasts issued by IMD’s Chandigarh centre indicate mostly clear skies until Feb 14, followed by partly cloudy conditions on Feb 15. Weather conditions are likely to turn unstable on Feb 16 and 17, leading to the yellow alert for parts of Haryana, including the city. While no widespread rainfall is expected, the weather department cautioned that isolated thunderstorms and lightning may occur, particularly during late afternoon or evening hours. A yellow alert is advisory in nature and indicates weather that may affect outdoor activities but does not require emergency action. Meteorologists further said, “The absence of strong western disturbances so far this month has contributed to the rise in temperatures across the region.”
