Experts address global challenge of pedestrian mobility, road safety

Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) recently hosted the international conference on ‘Sensing and Modelling for Pedestrian Mobility and Safety’ (ICSM-PMS 2026) at the Pioneer Batch Continuing Education Centre (PBCEC), IIT Kanpur. The two-day conference brought together researchers, academics, and practitioners to address the critical global challenge of pedestrian mobility and road safety using advanced sensing, data analytics, and modelling approaches.Organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Kanpur, the conference was held as part of a SPARC-funded international research collaboration involving IIT-K and the University of Melbourne, Australia. The conference featured a keynote address by Prof Milad Haghani, Principal Research Fellow in Resilience and Mobility, Department of Infrastructure Engineering, University of Melbourne. The technical programme comprised four thematic sessions focusing on Mobility, Mobility and Sensing, and Pedestrian Safety, along with a hands-on demonstration session.
