Police trace boy who eloped with uncle’s wife

Gorakhpur: A 15-year-old class 9 student who allegedly eloped with his 35-year-old aunt on Jan 26 was traced by police. The boy’s uncle is employed outside the state and the latter’s wife lived with the boy’s family. Both were brought to Pipiganj police station on Monday and their family members were called in too. According to police, the boy and his aunt went missing from their home in Jungle Kaudia area on Jan 26. The family lodged a missing complaint at Pipiganj police station. Police investigated using surveillance inputs and CCTV footage, while relatives were alerted across districts. The duo was traced by police within city limits and detained. During questioning, the minor boy told police that he wanted to marry his aunt, and the latter too expressed her desire to stay with him. Police sources said the two were allegedly making preparations for marriage when they were traced.A meeting involving family elders and police was held for nearly an hour. Citing social stigma, the families of the boy and the woman chose to resolve the matter without legal action. After counselling, both were taken back by their respective families.Pipiganj SHO Arun Kumar Singh said both sides said they did not wish for any legal action, following which the matter was closed.
