Hyderabad: The suicide of BJP candidate E Mahadevappa, who was contesting from the 6th ward in the municipal polls in Makthal, Narayanapet, has escalated into a matter of concern in Parliament. On Monday, Union minister G Kishan Reddy made serious accusations against chief minister Revanth Reddy, alleging that in the CM’s home district of Mahabubnagar, Congress leaders resorted to various forms of violence. He claimed they even kidnapped candidates from opposing parties. Kishan told the Lok Sabha that the 45-year-old took his own life after enduring immense pressure stemming from these harassment tactics. With municipal elections set for Wednesday, Kishan criticised the ruling Congress for acting in an undemocratic manner and urged the Lok Sabha to denounce such actions. Rajya Sabha member K Laxman also raised the incident in the Upper House, describing it as appalling that such a tragedy occurred in CM Revanth Reddy’s home district. He recounted how Mahadevappa, an ST candidate, had assured his wife of his prospective victory and yet continued to face harassment from the ruling party, ultimately leading to his suicide.Laxman expressed his concerns to the Rajya Sabha, demanding legal action against those responsible for the incident. He also called on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is touring the country with the Constitution in hand, to address this critical issue.Meanwhile, Union minister Bandi Sanjay reacted with outrage over Mahadevappa’s death, asserting that it was not a suicide but a murder committed by Congress. He condemned the party for resorting to intimidation and chaos out of fear of losing, predicting a public backlash. He questioned whether the apparent patience of the people was being misconstrued as cowardice and declared that the BJP would launch a campaign against Congress.
