Kanpur: Two men were killed after being hit by a speeding container near Naramau toll gate on Kanpur–Aligarh highway in Bithoor police station area late on Monday.According to police, the acccident occured when the two men allegedly came onto the highway while fighting under the influence of alcohol. A container passing through the highway hit them, killing both on the spot. On receiving information, police reached the spot to take stock. Based on a complaint filed by the family of one of the deceased, a report was registered at Bithoor police station. One of the deceased has been identified as Suraj Kumar (30), a native of Chilla village in Basti district. He worked with his wife, Indrawati, at a fast-food shop near the IIT Gate. Indrawati told police that a dispute had broken out late Monday night between the shop owner and some intoxicated customers. After the argument, the customers moved a short distance away from the shop, but Suraj and the shop owner allegedly followed them and confronted them again on the road. During the altercation, Suraj and one of the customers reportedly began pushing each other and came onto the highway, where they were hit by a container.When Suraj did not return home late at night, Indrawati alerted UP-112. Later, Mandhana police showed her photographs of the accident victims, and she identified one of them as her husband. She lodged a complaint at Bithoor police station. Bithoor inspector Ashok Kumar Nishad said both the deceased were on the highway during a fight when the container hit them. Based on CCTV footage, a suspected container has been detained.
