Dixon eyes product portfolio expansion, scouts new facility

Chennai: Dixon Technologies is preparing for a major scale-up in IT hardware and industrial electronics business, with new facilities coming up near Chennai. It is also planning to expand its product portfolio, including servers, all-in-one personal computers, printers, SSD and memory modules, according to a senior executive of the company. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Atul Lall, vice-chairman and managing director of Dixon Technologies said a new unit being built with Taiwanese joint-venture partner Inventec to make PC products, server and PC components is expected to be ready around July and become operational shortly thereafter. He said the company is evaluating further investments including laptop mechanicals and a separate campus for industrial electronics manufacturing service with a focus on automotive applications. The upcoming expansion will add to its existing workforce of roughly 3,000–3,500 people in the region.Lall said easing tariff regimes and improving trade access are transforming the scale at which Indian manufacturers can compete. However, the company stressed that capturing this opening will require significant upgrades in skills, engineering capability and supplier depth. “Manufacturers will need stronger R&D capacity, tighter quality control, globally benchmarked reliability metrics and specialised talent across domains such as thermal systems, tooling and precision manufacturing,” he said.
