BENGALURU: Two cases have been registered against a real estate firm and a YouTuber for using a drone and a sky balloon within the premises of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) last month. The cases were filed against BCD Construction on Feb 7 and against a YouTuber operating under the account name ‘Bangalore Wanderlust’ on Feb 8.
According to a complaint by CISF officer Nagendra L, at 11.40am on Jan 5, staff noticed a sky balloon promoting BCD Construction flying in KIA’s operational area. The aviation security team and bomb detection and disposal squad inspected the balloon and confirmed there were no explosives. However, as KIA is classified as a Red Zone (no-fly area) under Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines, flying the balloon was a violation. In a separate complaint, Nagendra stated that on Jan 4, the YouTuber had captured aerial footage of the Namma Metro upper ramp construction within KIA premises using a drone. The officer noted that the delay in filing the complaints was due to consultations with senior officials. Both cases have been registered under the Aircraft Act and Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with acts endangering life or personal safety.
