Rainwater harvesting capacity up by 4.2L kilolitres

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat govt said on Monday that the state’s rainwater harvesting capacity increased by 4.19 lakh kilolitres after the launch of the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign in urban areas. Under the initiative, about 2,900 rainwater harvesting systems were developed in 17 municipal corporations and 152 municipalities, increasing rainwater storage capacity by about 4,19,000 kilolitres.Govt also said that it set a target for 100% disposal of legacy waste in cities by March 2026. A total of 30.4 million metric tonnes of legacy waste was identified in urban areas, with 28.2 million metric tonnes already scientifically disposed of, govt said in a statement.As part of the urban development year programmes, more than 240 hectares of new green spaces will be developed, including parks, sponge parks for rainwater absorption, and urban forests. The state govt aims to complete over 340 projects during the year, with 146 already completed.
