Pune: The Pune city traffic police on Monday announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for people who report the highest number of traffic offences using the Pune Traffic Police (PTP) application.Joint police commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma addressed 600 motorists caught for drunk driving in the city, urging them to be responsible citizens and follow traffic rules. He also encouraged them to download the PTP app to report traffic violations. “I also urge you to wear helmets,” Sharma said. The Pune city police organise counselling sessions at the Shivajinagar police headquarters every Monday for motorists caught for drunk driving.Speaking on the occasion, additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil said, “Citizens can easily download the PTP app on their cellphones and use it to take photographs or videos of traffic offences such as triple-seat riding, parking on footpaths, fancy number plates, rash driving, using a phone while driving, double parking, and more.”Patil added, “We have decided to reward Rs 50,000 to the person(s) who report the most traffic offences in a year on the PTP app.” So far, people have uploaded 1.80 lakh traffic offences on the app, out of which the police have issued challans against 1.16 lakh motorists.He said, “Our team carefully verifies all photos and videos submitted on the app before issuing online challans to ensure fairness and accuracy.”
