Bengaluru: Customs officials arrested a passenger at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Sunday for attempting to illegally smuggle foreign currency and diamonds out of the country.The interception occurred during routine checks, when officers noticed suspicious concealment. On examination, the passenger was found carrying foreign currency worth $18,500 and diamonds weighing approximately 1,135 carats. The total estimated value of the seized contraband stood at Rs 2 crore.Officials said the attempt constituted a clear violation of Indian regulations governing the export of currency and precious stones. The passenger was taken into custody and arrested under the Customs Act-1962. Probe is under way to determine the source of the diamonds, their intended destination, and whether the accused is linked to a wider smuggling network.
