Jaipur: A political face-off erupted Sunday over ongoing construction above a dargah located at the Chandpole vegetable market, as BJP MLA Balmukundacharya and Congress MLA Amin Kagzi reached the site amid objections from local residents. Police were deployed to control the situation and disperse the crowd, while security remains in place in and around the market area as a precaution. Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has halted the construction for the time being. The standoff during the day continued for nearly 6 hours.According to JMC officials, the municipal corporation issued a work order for the construction of a shed and a hall near the dargah. However, when the contractor began work above the structure, some locals objected and informed the BJP MLA. Acharya reached the spot around 9.45am, after which Congress MLA Amin Kagzi also arrived. This led to a heated exchange between the two leaders.

Balmukundacharya alleged that there was a planned attempt to expand the dargah by encroaching on govt land located between two temples. “On one side there is a Hanuman temple and on the other a Ganesh temple. Iron rods have been inserted into the boundary wall as part of a planned expansion,” he said.Kagzi said the construction was being carried out using MLA development funds and claimed the dargah was around 150 years old. “This is not govt land. JMC itself is carrying out the work. We also allocated funds for renovation and beautification of temples in the past,” Kagzi said. He added that allegations of encroachment were politically motivated. “Those making these accusations should focus on leadership in their own constituencies instead of creating controversy in others’ areas,” he said.JMC records show that a work order worth Rs 18.32 lakh was issued on Jan 30, and preparatory work for roofing began Sunday. Locals alleged that court directions requiring construction to maintain a 5-metre distance from the dargah boundary wall were ignored.
