Kanpur: The case of identifying the burnt body of a young woman found in a field along the highway in Kannauj became complicated after the alleged boyfriend of the woman, who was claimed to be murdered, told police that she was alive. Following the statement, police took the body back into custody and restarted the investigation.On the afternoon of February 4, a burnt body of a woman was found in a potato field along the highway in Ritu Kala village of Kannauj. The body was completely burnt, while the face was partially intact. Police reached the spot, took the body into custody, and began efforts to identify it.
During the identification process, a woman from Ahmadpur Rauni village in the Sadar Kotwali area identified the body as that of her daughter. Family members said their daughter had left with a young man from the same village about 20 days earlier. Based on this, police took the young woman’s boyfriend and one of his friends into custody and began interrogation.During interrogation in police custody, the boyfriend claimed that the young woman was alive and safe. He also presented some evidence to police in this regard, which gave the case a new turn.After the boyfriend’s statement, police took the body back into their custody and began the identification process again. Police were preparing to send the body for DNA testing.Kotwali in-charge Jitendra Pratap Singh said that the matter was being thoroughly investigated. “The situation will be completely clear only after the DNA report comes. The police are investigating, keeping every aspect in mind, and the entire case will be revealed soon,” he said.
