Noida: Residents of Sector 51 met senior police officials to raise concerns over persistent noise pollution and safety issues linked to wedding-season activity in nearby banquet halls and the neighbouring village of Hoshiarpur. At the meeting with ACP 3 and the Sector 51 SHO, members of the Sector 51 RWA highlighted the impact of loud DJ music and fireworks late into the night, particularly on senior citizens and children preparing for board examinations. They also sought increased police presence to curb illegal drinking, unauthorized parking of commercial vehicles in residential lanes, and other safety-related issues. “Disturbances from loud DJ music till late nights were particularly troubling the sick, elderly, and children currently preparing for board exams. In our complaint to the police officials, we detailed the negative impact of excessive noise, highlighting the overlapping examination period for classes 10 and 12, which starts Feb 12,” said Sanjeev Kumar, general secretary of the Sector 51 RWA (blocks C to F). Residents pointed out that noise levels frequently exceeded permissible limits under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, notified by the Central Pollution Control Board. The rules allow noise levels of up to 55 dB(A) during the day (6 am to 10 pm) and 45 dB(A) at night (10 pm to 6 am) in residential areas. According to residents, the music was often “thumpingly loud”, causing doors and windows to vibrate. The RWA also raised concerns about unauthorised street vendors and scrap dealers operating in the area. Responding to the complaints, ACP Rakesh Pratap Singh and SHO Sunil Bhardwaj assured residents of immediate action. “Any DJ found playing loudly will have their equipment confiscated. Traffic congestion and unauthorised parking, especially near the BDS market and Sector 52 metro station, will also be checked, along with enhanced night patrolling,” Singh said, adding that police verification processes would also be reviewed.
