Mohali: Sohana police have registered a case against seven persons for allegedly selling 44 marlas of land belonging to Gurdwara Amb Sahib, managed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), on the basis of forged documents. The accused allegedly executed the sale using a fake power of attorney, causing a substantial financial loss to the SGPC.The accused named in the FIR were identified as Rajinder Singh, a resident of Sector 44A, Chandigarh; Gurinder Singh, Talwinder Singh, Satvir Singh, Baljinder Singh and Jaswant Singh, all residents of IT City, Mohali; and Jagtar Singh, a resident of Gurdwara Amb Sahib.
The case was registered on the basis of a complaint submitted by SGPC secretary Pratap Singh to the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Mohali. In the complaint, it was alleged that the accused, acting in connivance with each other, prepared a forged power of attorney dated Oct 15, 2025, bearing fake signatures of the SGPC secretary. Using this forged document, the accused allegedly got the land registered in their favour on Dec 2, 2025.As per the complaint, Rajinder Singh, who was posted as the manager of Gurdwara Amb Sahib at the time, allegedly played a key role in the conspiracy along with other accused. The SGPC pointed out that under the Sikh Gurdwaras Act, 1925, prior approval of the SGPC executive committee is mandatory for the sale of property belonging to any notified gurdwara. However, no such approval was ever sought or granted in this case.Police investigation revealed that an amount of around Rs 1.32 crore was received from the sale of the 44 marlas of land through cheques drawn from different banks. It is alleged that the entire sale proceeds were misappropriated by the accused, resulting in a major financial loss to SGPC.During the preliminary investigation, it also emerged that some of the accused signed as witnesses on the sale and registration documents despite being aware that the power of attorney and related papers were forged.Sohana police registered a case under Sections 318(4), 336(2), 336(3), 338, 340(2) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police officials said the investigation is underway and the role of each accused is being examined in detail. Further legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
