Amritsar: A suspicious banner tied to a cluster of balloons, believed to have drifted in from Pakistan, landed on the roof of a house in Jandiala Guru on Saturday, triggering alarm in the neighbourhood. Intelligence agencies suspect that although the Urdu text on the banner appears innocuous, it may actually serve as a coded message meant for Indian smugglers.According to sources, the balloons carried the banner across the border before it came down in a residential lane. The incident came to light when villagers spotted children playing with the banner, prompting them to alert the police.
A police team reached the spot, secured the banner and safely detached the balloons from the children. The banner was later shifted to a secure location for detailed examination. Preliminary investigations revealed that the banner contained text written in Urdu using red, blue, and black ink. Sources said the banner mentioned details related to a medical cap used in Pakistan, along with a mobile phone number — details that have deepened suspicion about its purpose and possible cross-border links.
