DEO to issue notices to SDA principal, admin head

Ahmedabad: Following an assault on a Class 7 student at Seventh-Day Adventist school in the Khokhra area of the city, the city district education officer (DEO) is set to issue notices seeking an explanation as to why the school’s principal and administrative head should not be removed from the service. The move comes after a preliminary inquiry found both officials guilty of negligence. After the incident, the Ahmedabad City DEO ordered a formal investigation and assigned the responsibility to an education inspector. The inspector conducted a preliminary probe and submitted a report to City DEO Rohit Chaudhary, in which the school principal Robinson and administrative head Mayurika were found responsible for serious lapses in handling the matter.According to available information, three Class 7 students attacked their class monitor inside the school premises. The accused students allegedly used a blade to slash the buttons of the victim’s shirt and threatened to kill him. Following the incident, the victim’s father lodged a complaint at the Khokhra police station, after which the police registered an offence against the minors.Despite being informed by the victim’s parents, the school management allegedly failed to take timely action or report the incident to higher authorities. The investigation also revealed that although the school administration is currently under govt-appointed supervision, the incident was not reported to the administrator or the Ahmedabad City DEO, indicating continued negligence.Notably, a similar lapse came to light earlier during an incident involving a Class 10 student, when the school failed to inform authorities. Earlier, former principal Emmanuel was removed following the Class 10 incident.
