Navi Mumbai: Citizens visiting the Vadale pond in Panvel confronted an on-duty security guard with Panvel Municipal Corporation for hitting a stray dog with a wooden baton, and an animal activist made him publicly apologise and do sit-ups while holding both ears. The video clip of the incident went viral on social media after it was posted by an X handler, claiming that the incident occurred in Bandra near Bandstand. However, replying to the post, an animal lover stated that the incident was from Panvel. In the video clip on social media, 2 men are seen threatening the security guard for hitting the stray dog. One of the men, an animal activist, is seen telling him that if anything happens to the female stray dog whom he hit, he will return and punish him personally.
While making him do sit-ups by holding both ears, the 2 men made him swear that he would never hit any animal and would not misuse his uniform.Nitin Thakare, senior inspector of Panvel City Police Station, informed that the incident occurred on February 2 late evening. Thereafter, the security guard, identified as Govind Shinde (38), lodged a police complaint, and a non-cognisable offence was registered against the accused, Vijay Rangare, who forced him to publicly apologise, made him do sit-ups, and humiliated him. However, the complainant guard, Shinde, claimed that he hit the female stray dog loitering near Vadale pond as she once bit his son, and he was only shooing away the stray dog to prevent other citizens visiting the Vadala pond area for leisure from getting bitten. When contacted, the accused, Vijay Rangare, said, “The local residents said that the stray dog is adorable and has never bitten anyone while loitering near Vadale pond. As the security guard claimed that he hit the stray dog for biting his son, I asked him to show proof, but he was unable to do it. As Shinde registered a non-cognisable offence against me, I will be registering an FIR against Shinde for hurting the stray dog.
We took the stray dog to a veterinarian for treatment to ensure that there were no complications after being hurt by the security guard.”
