Man booked for sexually assaulting 1-year-old grandson

Navi Mumbai: A 50-year-old man was booked by Koparkhairane police after a complaint was lodged by his daughter-in-law, alleging that he sexually assaulted her son who was 1-year-old at the time of the incident and sexually harassed her. Umesh Gavali, Senior Inspector of Koparkhairane police station, said, “As the complainant claimed that the incident occurred between Aug 12 and Dec 4 last year, and she lodged a complaint against her father-in-law 2 months later on Friday, the allegations levelled by the complainant seem to be sceptical. She claimed that she told her husband, who is working in Dubai, about the incident, but he said that he would look into the matter after returning from Dubai. However, as the sexual harassment continued, she lodged a police complaint against her father-in-law.”SPI Gavali added, “As the accused is currently in Hyderabad and is unaware of an FIR registered against him, we did not contact him as he might abscond. He will be detained for inquiry and, accordingly, legal course of action will be taken against him. The accused was booked under relevant sections of BNS for sexual harassment against a woman, assault or criminal force used against a woman and criminal intimidation, along with the Pocso Act.”
