End of chill? Nights set to get warmer in Gurgaon this week, days windy, says IMD

Gurgaon: The city recorded a rise in night temperature over the past 24 hours. The minimum temperature climbed by more than two degrees to 11.6°C on Saturday, as against 9.3°C on the previous day.Conditions remained comfortable, with gusty surface winds of up to 20kmph helping prevent a sharp rise in daytime temperatures. The maximum temperature inched up to 24.1°C, marginally up from Friday’s 23.3°C.In Haryana, the average minimum temperature rose by around 1.5°C during the past 24 hours. The lowest minimum temperature in the state was recorded at 7.5°C in Mahendragarh.Dry weather, officials said, is expected to continue through the week.According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the existing western disturbance is now over north Pakistan, while a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from Sunday night. Under its influence, isolated to scattered rainfall and snowfall is likely over the Western Himalayas between Feb 9 and 11. However, its influence is largely confined to the upper reaches of the Himalayas, with little impact expected over the plains.For the city, IMD forecast a largely clear sky over the next seven days, except on Monday and Tuesday, when partly cloudy conditions may prevail. “There will be no major change in minimum temperatures over the next 2 days, followed by a gradual rise of 2-4°C. Strong surface winds are also likely at isolated places during the next 3 days,” an IMD official said.On Sunday, the minimum and maximum temperatures in the city are expected to be around 11°C and 22°C, respectively. The city’s air quality index (AQI) was 262 on Saturday, in the “poor” category. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Saturday stated that during the period from Jan 20 to Feb 4, flying squads found 336 violations across the NCR, including 34 from the C&D sector, 229 from the industrial sector, and five for DG sets.It added that closures have been proposed for 21 units, sealing of DG sets have been proposed for 53 units, show cause notices have been issued to two units and 63 reports are under examination.CAQM said a total of 25,975 units, projects and entities have been inspected so far by the flying squads. Based on these inspections, 1,661 closure directions have been issued for non-compliance. Out of these, 1,278 resumption orders have been issued upon verification of compliance by the concerned units. Further, 123 cases have been transferred to the respective State Pollution Control Boards or Delhi Pollution Control Committee for final decision, while resumption orders in respect of the remaining 260 entities are under examination.
