Sourav Joshi called ‘misogynist’: YouTuber faces backlash after wife Avantika Bhatt is dared to drink from pet dog Oreo’s bowl

A joke in a family vlog has landed popular YouTuber Sourav Joshi in the middle of an online controversy. In a clip that is now doing the rounds on social media, his wife, Avantika Bhatt, is dared to drink water from their pet dog Oreo’s bowl during a game of truth or dare. The people playing the game seemed to take it lightly. But many viewers weren’t amused. Some questioned the hygiene aspect, while others felt the challenge was in poor taste and asked why Avantika was put in that position in the first place. The video has also caught the attention of Amit Kilhor, a prominent Indian UPSC educator, mentor and content creator who founded Resolve IAS. Reacting to the episode, Kilhor called Sourav a misogynist, adding to the criticism the YouTuber is facing.

What happened during the game?

The clip comes from a vlog featuring Sourav and family members, including Piyush and Sahil. They were playing a bottle-spinning game when it was Avantika’s turn to take on a challenge. After she chose a dare, Sourav asked her to drink water from Oreo’s bowl. The exchange was treated as a joke, with comments such as “ek ghoot peena hai bas” and “saaf pani hai” suggesting that she only needed to take one sip and that the water was clean. That explanation, however, hasn’t stopped the criticism. As the clip spread, viewers questioned the choice of dare. For some, it was simply unhygienic. Others felt that asking Avantika to drink from a dog’s bowl was an unnecessary way to get a reaction on camera. And while truth or dare is meant to involve challenges, not everyone watching felt this one was funny.

Amit Kilhor’s reaction adds to the controversy

Amit Kilhor also reacted to the video, calling Sourav a misogynist. Kilhor, who mentors UPSC aspirants and runs Resolve IAS, criticised the YouTuber over the incident. His remarks have brought another question into the conversation: was this just a joke between family members, or was Avantika being made the subject of a challenge that viewers found disrespectful? The reaction has been divided, but the criticism is clear. Many viewers have taken issue with the idea of turning an uncomfortable dare into entertainment, especially when it involves a creator’s spouse.Kilhor’s comment is his assessment of Sourav’s behaviour in the video. Whether others agree with that label or not, the clip has prompted people to question the choice of challenge.

Why are viewers objecting to the dare?

Anyone who has watched a truth-or-dare game knows that some challenges can be silly, embarrassing or downright strange. Often, that’s the whole point. But a dare that gets laughs from the people in the room may not go down as well with thousands of people watching online. Here, the debate isn’t just about whether the water was clean. It’s about why drinking from a pet’s bowl was considered an acceptable challenge at all.Family vloggers regularly share jokes, games and everyday moments with their audiences. That doesn’t mean every moment will land as intended. Once a clip is out there, viewers can question what they see, and a joke can quickly become a source of criticism. Some may feel the incident has been made into a bigger issue than it needs to be. Others believe the dare was unnecessary and that being part of a game doesn’t automatically make it funny. For Sourav Joshi, a brief moment in a family vlog has now become a wider talking point, with viewers questioning the dare and Kilhor openly criticising his actions. What was presented as a bit of fun has clearly not been received that way by everyone.
