Jaipur: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has been conducting capacity-building workshops for door-to-door garbage collection drivers and helpers across all zones to improve waste segregation, timely collection and cleanliness practices. While the civic body claims the initiative will strengthen the city’s sanitation system, residents say ground realities tell a different story. In areas such as the Walled City, Vidhyadhar Nagar, Pratap Nagar and Sanganer, complaints of irregular garbage collection persist. Residents allege waste collection vehicles often fail to arrive as scheduled, with garbage left unattended for up to two days, causing foul smells and unhygienic conditions.
Rekha Verma, a resident of Vidhyadhar Nagar, said people are informed that garbage hoppers will come in the morning, but they sometimes arrive late in the day or not at all. “Residents are left with no option but to dump waste outside,” she said. Shopkeeper Mukesh Jain from Pratap Nagar said poor sanitation impacts business. “When garbage piles up near markets, customers hesitate to visit. Cleanliness directly affects footfall,” he said. Nasim Bano, a homemaker from the Walled City, said training programmes are welcome but stressed that regular and timely garbage collection should be the priority.
