Mumbai: Residents of several parts of the city’s eastern suburbs will have to brace for a 30-hour water shutdown later this week, as the BMC takes up works to strengthen the water supply network in M East and M West wards. The water cut will be in effect from 2am on Thursday, Feb 12, until 8am on Friday, Feb 13. During this period, water supply will remain completely shut in parts of M East ward—covering civic wards 146, 147 and 148 — and in parts of M West ward, including wards 154 and 155.Civic officials said the shutdown is necessary to carry out major works at the Turbhe Low-Level Reservoir, where a 1,200mm diameter sluice valve will be installed on the inlet pipeline. The BMC will also connect the inlet pipeline to the tunnel shaft (AMT-II), a step aimed at improving water supply efficiency and reliability in these areas. In M East ward, areas such as the HPCL and BPCL refinery colonies, RCF Colony, Anik, Sahyadri Nagar, Bharat Nagar, old refinery areas, and several MHADA colonies will be affected. In M West ward, neighbourhoods including Mahul, Chembur Camp, Vashi Naka, Sindhi Society, parts of RC Marg, Mysore Colony, and Laxmi Nagar will see a complete shutdown. The BMC urged residents to store sufficient water in advance and to use it sparingly during the disruption. As a precaution, citizens also received advice to boil and filter drinking water for a few days after the supply resumes.
