FIR against 5 in LU pension fraud case

Lucknow: The Kaiserbagh police registered an FIR against five members of a family for allegedly fabricating multiple death certificates of a retired Lucknow University (LU) employee and fraudulently withdrawing his pension for nearly seven years after his death. The FIR was registered late on Thursday. The accused were identified as Ram Bahadur, a resident of Kaiserbagh, his sons Abhishek, Vivek and Vishal, and his brother Chunnilal. The case was registered on a complaint by Ayush Kumar, a resident of Paharpur village under the Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) area, who is the nephew of the deceased.

According to the complaint, Ayush’s uncle, Putt Lal, was a class-IV employee in LU’s physics department. He retired from service in 2002 and passed away on Dec 23, 2017. However, the accused allegedly showed Putt Lal as alive in official records until 2023.The complainant alleged that Ram Bahadur, along with his sons, falsely projected his uncle Chunnilal as Putt Lal by misrepresenting him as the pensioner and taking his thumb impressions on pension-related documents. Chunnilal, who is illiterate, was allegedly misled into cooperating in the process. Pension withdrawals continued for years on the basis of forged records.Ayush said that when Chunnilal later became aware of the alleged fraud, he submitted an affidavit to LU clarifying his position. Thereafter, LU’s pension department constituted an inquiry team, which confirmed that Putt Lal died several years earlier.Based on the findings, the complainant approached the Kaiserbagh police, following which an FIR was registered against all five accused.In-charge of Kaiserbagh police station, inspector Anjani Mishra said that a case was registered and an investigation was initiated.
