22 injured in clash between TMC factions

Kolkata: At least 22 people were injured in Basanti’s Amjhara, South 24 Parganas, on Thursday evening after clashes between two Trinamool factions.Trouble began when a local contractor approached the gram panchayat demanding payment of dues. A heated argument ensued which escalated into a scuffle. The contractor allegedly returned with a group of supporters and launched an attack.

Police rushed to the scene, set up pickets and conducted searches. Two people have been detained. Manjur Khan, deputy chief of Amjhara gram panchayat, alleged that supporters of Azad Koyal, a former RSP member who had subsequently joined Trinamool, were involved in the attack.
