Cops say no shots fired, man held for ramming shooter’s car with SUV in Greater Noida

Noida: A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with a road accident that took place on Wednesday night, when two vehicles collided in Ecotech-3. The complainant, Shivam Thakur, had alleged that the accused chased down his vehicle and opened fire with the intent to kill, but investigation revealed that only a collision had occurred.Thakur, who has represented India at national and international shooting championships, winning more than 30 gold, silver and bronze medals, had alleged that he was on his way home in his Grand Vitara car when a white Bolero vehicle rammed into his car from behind. In his police complaint, Thakur had claimed that he was chased for over half a kilometre by miscreants travelling in the Bolero. During the chase, he said the attackers rammed his car two times from behind in an attempt to force him to stop. When he continued driving, the assailants opened fire, he alleged. However, preliminary investigation revealed this was not the case.An FIR was registered based on the complaint and an investigation was initiated by the Ecotech-3 police team. During the course of the probe, police examined CCTV footage installed in the surrounding area. The CCTV footage helped identify the Bolero’s registration number.Police traced and arrested Deepak, a resident of Madhuban Vihar in Kulesara village. While both parties reside in the same area, police said they found no evidence of any prior dispute or personal enmity between them. Preliminary findings suggest the incident was a road accident and not a premeditated act, cops said.Police also dismissed rumours of gunfire linked to the incident. “No evidence of firing or use of any weapon emerged during the investigation,” an officer said.Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway in the matter, police added.Thakur had initially said he had reported the incident on 112 and a police team reached the spot, but no action was taken in the matter. On Thursday, he had approached the ACP, demanding registration of an FIR against the accused.
