Man held for defrauding Ambala resident of over Rs 3 cr

Ambala: In a major action against cyber fraud, a team from Cyber Crime police station here on Friday claimed to have arrested a man involved in a large-scale online cheating case in which the victim was defrauded of Rs 3.13 crore.Raj Kumar, a resident of Mahesh Nagar near Bhagwati Mandir, Ambala Cantonment, was allegedly lured with promises of earning money through Telegram-based tasks.The arrested accused has been identified as Abhay Singh alias Ankit, a resident of Nunhai Yamuna Bridge, Agra in Uttar Pradesh. He is currently residing at Yakubpur, Nabhatti Apartment, Phase-II Police Station area, Noida, UP.Abhay Singh was arrested during an operation conducted by sub-inspector Kamaljeet, along with his team, under the leadership of Cyber Crime police station SHO SI Ravi Kumar, on Feb 5.Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the district court, which sent him into judicial custody. During the investigation, police found that approximately Rs 10 lakh was transferred into Abhay Singh’s bank account. The matter is being investigated in depth, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest other accused involved in the fraud, said the police.According to the police, Raj Kumar lodged a complaint at Cyber Crime police station, Ambala, on Nov 18, 2025, alleging that between Aug 27, 2025, and Nov 3, 2025, unknown cyber fraudsters cheated him of Rs 3.13 crore by enticing him with offers of earning money by completing online tasks on Telegram.Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of the accused.Meanwhile, Ambala SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat appealed to the general public to remain cautious and not fall prey to cyber fraudsters. He emphasised that awareness was the most effective weapon against cybercrime.In case of any cyber fraud, citizens are advised to immediately call the national cyber crime helpline number 1930 and register their complaint promptly so that timely and effective action can be taken, he added.MSID:: 127991971 413 |
