New York City has become the subject of an online discussion after a conversation about housing costs drew strong reactions from social media users. What began as a chat about one couple’s expenses soon turned into a debate about apartment prices, different neighbourhoods and whether converting overseas costs directly into Indian rupees gives the full picture.The discussion featured financial influencer Sharan Hegde and NYC-based content creator and entrepreneur Khushi Jain. Khushi Jain reveals her rent
Hegde asked Jain about her monthly rent while the two were inside her apartment. Rent varies across New York areas
Jain also spoke about rental prices in areas beyond Manhattan.She said apartments in Brooklyn, Long Island City, Queens and Astoria could be available for around $5,000 to $6,000 a month. She also mentioned that some options in other areas could cost around $8,000 to $9,000.Hegde highlighted the difference in his Instagram caption, saying that moving outside Manhattan could bring the rent down to around 5,000-6,000.
Their monthly expenses
The conversation also revealed how much Jain and her partner spend in total.According to Jain, the couple’s monthly expenses come to around $10,000, including rent and other costs.Hegde estimated their yearly spending at approximately $100,000 to $120,000, which works out to around ₹95 lakh to ₹1.14 crore.“NYC rent is on a completely different level,” he wrote in the caption.
