Lucknow: Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said Uttar Pradesh assembly polls may well be the last of the elections if one goes by the manner in which two election commissioners objected to 14 decisions of the Commission related to special intensive revision (SIR) within a span of 10 months.“Imagine how long the arms (of the govt) are. Then we have the news reports about the Election Commission,” Akhilesh said, adding: “Loktantra khatam … is liye akhiri chunav hone ja raha hai UP ka (democratic set-up has collapsed, which is why UP polls will be the last elections to be held),” Akhilesh said. He added that ECI was acting as a puppet to give shape to a conspiracy to end democracy.Prior to this, Akhilesh held a copy of The Indian Express to underscore the report that two election commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, reportedly recorded 14 formal notes of objection/dissent within a span of 10 months regarding decisions made by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during the SIR exercise.Akhilesh said SP had been raising issues of how SIR was tailor-made to benefit BJP. “We gave instances in writing of how over 1,000 Form 7 were signed by one individual despite a law and no one can file more than 7 objections, but no action has been taken on our complaint,” Akhilesh said, addressing a news conference.“Then we produced before the media a man who was illiterate and Form 7 were signed and submitted by his signature and name to get names of SP voters deleted from electoral rolls,” Akhilesh said, adding that no action was taken against a single person on the issue. This means the objective of SIR was abundantly clear to the officials involved in the exercise, the SP chief said.Akhilesh seeks compensation for Ayodhya demolition ‘victims’Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday demanded that the govt should provide adequate compensation to all those who have been displaced in Ayodhya without prior notice and whose homes and business establishments have been razed before they could even vacate the premises.Akhilesh read out a list of individuals from Ayodhya, many of whom addressed the media at the news conference convened by the SP chief, and estimated the cost of household items and goods related to businesses that have been damaged in the demolition drive. “I demand that the chief minister must compensate them adequately. If the demand is not met, then after forming the govt in 2027, the SP govt will give adequate compensation to them,” Akhilesh said.
