Pune: The Census exercise is likely to begin within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits on May 1, which will involve around 10,000 staff to carry out home visits to collect information from people. The civic administration will hold training sessions for the personnel in March and April, in a phased manner.A preliminary meeting to discuss the preparations was recently conducted under the chairmanship of additional municipal commissioner Omprakash Divte at the PMC headquarters, officials said. Various aspects pertaining to staff deployment, plan for home visits, and provision of stationery and other material required during the ground survey were discussed.The administration will appoint 15 officers at each ward office, who will supervise the exercise. Enumerators will be deployed at each ward on the basis of the number of houses they will cover. Supervisors will accompany enumerators during every visit. A civic official said, “As per the preliminary plan, home visits by enumerators will begin around May 15 and continue for one month. Surveyors will collect forms and take up the numbering of homes. From May 1 to 15, residents can fill up the forms online as the Central govt has in a first decided to provide a digital option.”The administration is in the process of getting more details from the state govt on the exercise, another official said. “A detailed programme will be declared in the next few days. All we want from people is their cooperation during the survey. The administration is expecting them to follow instructions,” the official said.
