Ahmedabad: More than two years after his mobile phone was allegedly stolen from a busy vegetable market in the Jodhpur area, a 72-year-old retired man lodged a formal complaint with Anandnagar police this week, highlighting delays that often mark minor theft cases.According to the FIR filed on Feb 5, Arvind Shah, a resident of Jodhpur, stated that the incident took place on the evening of Jan 16, 2024. Shah told police that he went to the Jodhpur village vegetable market around 7pm to buy groceries when his mobile phone, kept in his shirt pocket, was stolen.Shah said he immediately searched nearby vendors and the surrounding area, but to no avail. He alleged that an unidentified person stealthily removed the handset from his pocket amid the crowd. The phone was valued at around Rs 39,990.The complainant said that he approached police soon after the incident and submitted an application, but no formal FIR was registered at the time and the phone remained untraced. With no progress in the case even after a long wait, Shah recently opted to file an e-FIR through the Gujarat govt’s online portal, following which Anandnagar police called him for further enquiry.Police have now registered an FIR against an unidentified person for theft under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), nearly 25 months after the incident.
