Jaipur: The state govt Friday launched three new e-rickshaw zones in the city covering North Jaipur, Central Jaipur and areas around Jaipur Junction railway station, despite receiving a disappointing response from owners and drivers.Of the 8,200 proposed allotments for these three zones, the traffic wing received only 1,405 applications, all of which were allotted in Zone 1 (Central Jaipur), Zone 5 (North Jaipur) and Zone 6 (Chandpole Gate–Jaipur Junction stretch). The numbers showed little improvement even after the application deadline was extended till Jan 31.An officials said, “We have started receiving applications for the remaining three proposed zone – Zone 2 (covering West Jaipur), Zone 3 (covering South Jaipur) and Zone 4 (Covering East Jaipur). A lottery will be held on Feb 13, and these zones will be rolled out on Feb 14, completing the seven-zone segregation plan.”Earlier, Zone 7 covering the Walled City was implemented, with 50 e-rickshaws per zone and five designated routes—routes 7 A to 7E.DCP traffic Sumeet Meharda said the total allotments will now equal the number of registered e-rickshaws in Jaipur, adding that vehicles operating without zone allotment after Feb 14 will be seized. “E-rickshaws must operate only within their allotted zones and cannot move between zones,” he said.
