Lucknow: Following instructions from chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the Lucknow Police launched a 3-day special enforcement drive against the storage, sale and use of banned Chinese manjha in view of a series of fatal accidents reported in recent days, joint commissioner of police (law and order) Babloo Kumar said on Thursday. The JCP said that multiple incidents involving Chinese manjha were reported, resulting in loss of lives and grievous injuries, particularly among 2-wheeler riders and pedestrians. “Keeping these accidents in mind, district police conducted periodic checking drives, and now a focused special campaign is launched for the next three days,” he said.

All station house officers, chowki in-charges, DCPs and other field officers received clear instructions to take strict legal action against anyone involved in the stocking, sale or use of Chinese manjha or related materials. Police teams received directions to gather inputs, identify violators, conduct raids and ensure prompt registration of cases under relevant legal provisions.Kumar said that senior police officers will closely monitor the drive and review the action taken at the SHO level on a daily basis. “Accountability is fixed. Senior officers will take regular reviews of the enforcement carried out by SHOs and field staff to ensure that the campaign is implemented in letter and spirit,” he said.Warning of zero tolerance, Kumar said that negligence in enforcement or laxity at any level will not be accepted. “Those who are irresponsibly using Chinese manjha, as well as those facilitating its sale or storage, will face stringent legal action,” he added.
