Burglars break into Bengaluru hotel, flee with Rs 2.4 lakh

Bengaluru: A hotel in Banashankari III Phase, south Bengaluru, was burgled on Feb 2 after a gang broke open the rear entrance and stole Rs 2.4 lakh from the cashier box.Santosh Shetty, 42, employee of Ayodhya Upachar Hotel, near Janata Bazaar on 100 Feet Ring Road, told police the hotel’s main door was shut around 11.15pm on Feb 1. After calculating the day’s collection of Rs 2.4 lakh, Shetty placed the cash in the hotel’s cashier box. The staff were asleep on the second floor of the building.

The burglary came to light between 6am and 6.30am when an employee opened the hotel door and found the furniture not in order. He informed Shetty that items on the cash counter were scattered and the drawer was open. Shetty found the drawer broken with the help of an iron rod, which was left behind at the spot, and the cash was missing.An inspection revealed the hotel’s back door was forced open after the lock was smashed using the rod.Police are verifying CCTV footage and trying to nab the miscreants.
