UP cricketers need stronger Ranji Trophy show: Shukla

Lucknow: Praising the successful conduct of the fourth edition of the UPT20 League, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said UP is doing well in the shorter formats but expressed concern over Uttar Pradesh’s performance in red-ball cricket.Speaking to TOI, Shukla said Uttar Pradesh players need to deliver stronger performances in the Ranji Trophy and added that changes are expected this season. “UP players need to perform better in the Ranji Trophy. Our biggest concern is red-ball cricket, and we have to fix it. This time, many changes will be seen. Our Under-16, Under-19, Under-23 and T20 teams are doing well. The main issue is only the Ranji Trophy, and we must set it right this season,” Shukla said.Praising the UPT20 League, Shukla said the tournament has grown steadily with each season and has helped in identifying local talent. “Every season, it has progressed very well. As far as eyeballs, viewership, performance and talent identification are concerned, we have done very well on all four criteria. With one successful season after another, we have fulfilled these targets,” he said.Shukla further said that the international stadium in Varanasi is close to completion and will be ready to host matches soon. “Only 10% of the work is left. Once completed, it will definitely get domestic as well as international matches this season,” he said.
