Lucknow: Hitting out at the BJP govt for pre-dawn demolition of a mosque inside the district magistrate office compound in Saharanpur, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said the BJP has been caught stealing Ramdhun and wants to communalise the atmosphere.“Those who do not respect other religions cannot be Sanatanis. Those who make mockery of somelese’s faith can never be Sanatanis. A true Sanatani and a true Hindu can never disrespect another faith … this what we have learnt in Sanatan dharma,” Akhilesh said responding to the demolition of a mosque in Saharanpur. He said the philosophy of Vasudev Kutumbhkambh also encapsulates respect for all.Akhilesh said: “It was the govt’s prime responsibility to ensure amity. But this (demolition) was happening because the BJP has been caught stealing Ramdhun (Ram Temple donation).” The former UP CM went on to add that the BJP wants to add communal angle (to the atmosphere).The SP chief said the issue could have been taken up in the HC and in the Supreme Court. “But the officers demolished the mosque at the instance of the BJP (govt) so that petitioners did not get a chance to approach the higher courts,” he said, raising questions over the need to demolish the mosque in a haste.Earlier on Friday night, before the bulldozer action on the Saharanpur Collectorate Mosque, a heavy contingent of police force descended on several SP leaders in Saharanpur and adjoining districts and put them under house arrest. In Kairana, SP MP Iqra Hasan was placed her under house arrest where her mother former SP MP Tabassum Hasan had a heated exchange with the police on the issue but to no avail.Later, Hasan said she was kept under house arrest because the govt wanted to demolish the mosque illegally in violation of the justice system that has been assured by the Constitution. “Our officials demolished this mosque clandestinely. They should be ashamed of themselves because it is expected of them to remain neutral, educated, and carry out actions while being fully informed. However, they have acted merely to obey the orders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is extremely shameful,” Hasan said.Senior SP functionary Prof Sudhir Panwar described the demolition as yet another chapter of BJP’s communal agenda. “The demolition has established that the BJP is planning to contest the 2027 assembly polls Hindu- Muslim plank. The late night move explains that the administration was pretty much aware that the mosque committee can justice from the high court,” prof Panwar said.
