Jaipur: Rajasthan’s Vayam Lamba and Shreyansh Choudhary edged out Aditya Singh Negi (Uttarakhand) and Samvit Ramesh (Jharkhand) in a 72-minute battle to clinch the U-15 boys doubles title at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton tournament that concluded at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium here on Thursday.However in the U-15 mixed doubles summit clash, Rajasthan’s Manan Sharma and his partner Punjab’s Inayat Gulati had to be satisfied with a silver medal.Vayam and Shreyansh displayed an outstanding performance and won the hearts of the home supporters.Their returns, drops and smashes were worth watching. The crowd favourites overcame a mid-match slump to outlast Aditya Negi and Samvit 22-20, 26-28, 21-18 in a three-game thriller. Top seeded pair Manan and Inayat lost to second seeded pair Taabin Anuf Ahamed MF-Jashika Nidiginti Ankaiah 14-21, 15-21. Jessica Nidhighanti achieved a double crown.In the U-15 boys singles, Anikesh Dutta of Assam thumped S Gomathi Kumaran of Tamil Nadu 21-15, 21-15. In the girls singles of the same age group, fifth seeded Aryama Chakraborty of West Bengal won the title by stunning top seeded Himanshi Chandaram of Telangana 21-16, 21-17.In the U-15 girls doubles, Tamil Nadu pair Anushree GS and Jessica Nidighanti reigned supreme defeating A Chakraborty of West Bengal and A Rachapudi of Andhra Pradesh 23-21, 21-13.In an all-Tamil Nadu U-17 boys’ singles, Neeraj Nair PS stopped the dream run of qualifier Suhaas KR 21-8, 21-18, and in the girls’ category of the same age group, Himanshi Chandaram of Telangana trounced Gatha Suryavanshi of Maharashtra 21-16, 21-16 to win the title.Parth Puri and Bhasya Pathak from Gujarat rallied back superbly to upset Akshata Reddy Banjaram and Tanmaynihal Uttam of Telangana 11-21, 21-18, 21-12 to claim their maiden U-17 boys doubles title.In the girls’ doubles, twins Aradhya Hanumahia Gari and Avani Hanumahia Gari became champions. The Telangana twins edged past Anushka Jennifer AS and Dishitha Singha Gopinath Singh of Tamil Nadu 26-24, 15-21, 21-18 in a marathon battle.In the U-17 mixed doubles final, V Pahwaan of Haryana and S Chaudhary of Uttarakhand staged a remarkable comeback to down Abheek Sharma of Maharashtra and A Hanumahiya Gari of Telangana 19-21, 21-11, 21-13.The chief guest of the closing ceremony was Rajasthan Badminton Association secretary KK Sharma.
