Mapusa: The newly inaugurated Govt Hospital and Research Centre, Tuem (GMC link), has officially opened its doors, providing a healthcare boost to the residents of Pernem.

Residents expressed satisfaction as the GMC-link hospital began addressing the long-standing need for specialised care closer to home.

“The start of services is a huge relief. We no longer have to travel all the way to Bambolim for basic specialist consultations,” said Taramati Parab, a local who was visiting the hospital.“We urge govt to expedite the launch of casualty and emergency services” said Tulsi Naik.The health department has released a structured schedule to ensure comprehensive coverage.Health minister Vishwajit Rane emphasised that the facility is designed to function as a full-fledged district hospital.Advanced services, including MRI, CT scans, ICU/NICU care, and a blood bank, are set to differentiate it from the existing community health centre.Chief minister Pramod Sawant confirmed that while OPDs are active, the operation theatres are currently being tendered and are expected to be functional within four to six months.Govt also plans to establish a medical and nursing college at the site, further cementing Tuem as a primary healthcare hub for North Goa.
