Navone, a 25-year-old Argentine who won his first ATP singles title earlier this year, stayed composed against one of tennis’ greatest players. Djokovic became emotional during the match, with his tears appearing to reflect both physical pain and the frustration of a difficult night.Reflecting on the occasion, Navone said, “(It) was very tough for me because you are playing with the ‘GOAT’ on this court,” said Navone, who idolized Djokovic growing up. “For sure it’s the best thing I’ve had on court. This is an amazing court and the biggest stage. It’s amazing, the way we play. I mean, five sets. … I’m very happy. I don’t know. What can I say?”After securing the biggest win of his career, Navone added, “It’s unbelievable,” Navone said. “This means a lot. It’s a dream come true.”The result has raised fresh questions over whether Djokovic, who also lost in the first round in Cincinnati earlier this month, will return to the US Open or any Grand Slam again.
