Man killed on eway after truck hits his scooter

Gurgaon: A 68-year-old man was killed after a truck hit his electric scooter on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway near Ravi Hotel on Wednesday.The truck involved in the collision was identified and seized from the spot. However, the driver fled immediately after the accident and remains absconding, an officer said. “A case was registered under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Teams have been formed to trace and arrest the truck driver,” he added.The accident took place around 3.30pm when the deceased, identified as Narendra Yadav, a resident of Kherki Daula, was travelling towards Nainwal on his e-scooter for private work. Police said the truck hit the two-wheeler from behind, throwing Yadav off the vehicle.The force of the impact caused severe injuries to the deceased. Passers-by alerted emergency services and Yadav was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, an officer said.Police personnel reached the spot soon after the incident and diverted traffic on the busy highway to prevent further mishaps. “We are examining CCTV footage from nearby establishments, including roadside eateries and toll points, to track the movement of the truck before and after the crash,” the officer said. Police are also verifying the vehicle’s registration details to identify the owner and ascertain who was driving it at the time of the accident.The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem examination. The officer said statements of eyewitnesses are being recorded as part of the investigation.
