Bank employee, 1 other held for Rs1cr cyber fraud through fake trading app

Varanasi: Employee of Indore branch of a private sector bank was among two nabbed for duping investors through a fake trading app. Four others, including two employees of another private sector, are absconding. Investigations into the case brought to light cyber fraud of over Rs 1 crore.Azamgarh ASP (traffic/cyber crime) Vivek Tripathi said a case of fraud was registered by police on the complaint of Ashok Kumar Agrawal, who alleged that, on seeing an advertisement of NEXT TRADE on Facebook, he contacted the given mobile number and was lured into investing for high profits. Agrawal deposited a total amount of Rs 8.99 lakh and initially, the app showed profits, but when he tried to withdraw the money, he failed and his ID was blocked.

Cyber crime police nabbed Indrajit Dey of Delhi, operating from Ujjain and Ankesh Dhakad, working for a private sector bank in Indore, said the ASP. Apart from three mobile phones and SIM cards, police recovered three ATM cards, two cheque books, a bank ID, one SIM card and Rs 870 cash from them. The ASP said four other accused, including Gopal Bhadauria and Pritam, both bank employees, along with Madhav and Rocky, were absconding. Tripathi said during initial interrogation, the arrested duo confessed they ran an organised gang to approach people to download the NEXT TRADE app in the name of trading and investment. Money received from those who fell into their trap was transferred to mule bank accounts. Bank employees joined the gang and misused their position to ensure money transactions. As soon as money came into the accounts, it was withdrawn immediately while records of account transactions were also maintained.
