Jaipur: A day after a suspended govt lecturer died by suicide, his family Thursday refused to claim the body and staged a sit-in outside the SMS Hospital mortuary, alleging persistent harassment by investigators drove him to the extreme step. The deceased was identified as Manohar Lal Bhadu, who was under investigation by the Special Operations Group (SOG) in exam paper-leak cases. He had been suspended from service and transferred from Sanchore in Jalore district to Jaipur, where he was preparing for other competitive examinations. Officials said the investigation in the cases is still ongoing. Bhadu died Wednesday evening after jumping before a train under Mahesh Nagar police station limits. Family members alleged that SOG officers repeatedly harassed him and unfairly linked his name to multiple cases. They demanded action against the officers concerned, compensation for the deceased’s dependants and a govt job for a family member. Former Rajasthan University president Nirmal Choudhary also joined the protest Thursday evening. Police said Bhadu left behind a purported suicide note in which he claimed he was not dying by suicide and alleged that the police had “intentionally murdered” him. The note, which was reportedly shared with friends and later circulated on social media, is being examined to verify its authenticity and authorship. Despite repeated efforts by police to persuade the family to allow a post-mortem and perform last rites, relatives continued the protest till late Thursday evening. Police sources said efforts would resume on Friday to resolve the standoff.
