Navi Mumbai: Cyber police team has detected two seperate cyber crime cases and arrested four accused. One accused has been arrested for defrauding a retired civil engineer of Rs 4 crore by offering him high returns through online investment in gold trading, and the other three accused have been arrested for duping an environment consultant of Rs 56 lakh by assuring high returns in online stock market trading.The first incident occured between Feb and Nov last year. The fraudsters had claimed their trading firm was “UK based”, and after the victim realised that he was cheated, he had emailed a complaint to the UK police, but did not recieve any response. The victim then registered an FIR at Navi Mumbai Cyber police station, stated senior police inspector Vishal Patil.
SPI Patil said, “Upon verification of the bank accounts where the complainant was made to transfer Rs 4 crore, we learnt that suspect Kalpesh Shitap was from Chandanwadi in Thane district. Shitap was involved in cyber crime in 17 states across India. He has confessed that he opened accounts in different banks with his accomplices for committing cyber fraud.”In the second fraud that happened between Aug 14 and Nov 19 last year, SPI Patil further said police obtained the details of the bank account holders where the victim was made to transfer Rs 56 lakh. The accused Salim Sheikh, claimed that he had given his bank account to his accomplice Mohammad Nawil Harun alias Monu for which he was paid Rs 2 lakh. By tracking the mobile tower location of Harun, Sheikh was arrested from a hotel in Dombivli. Further probe revealed that the relationship manager of a cooperative bank in Sion, Saddam Ali Ejaz Ahmed, was also involved in the cyber fraud and was arrested. Ahmed was involved in cyber fraud in four states in India.SPI Patil said, “From the trio, we have seized four mobile phones, six SIM cards, two bank account cheque books, and two debit cards. During the house search of Harun, we have seized 17 cheque books of various banks, 10 debit cards, and three passbooks amongst other items.”
