Citizens seek action against pvt club at Central Park

Jaipur: Citizens’ group Central Park Bachao Sangharsh Samiti Thursday submitted a memorandum to the district collector and to the commissioner of Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), seeking action against alleged illegal use of public land at Central Park by Rambagh Golf Club.In its submission, the group stated that a decision taken during a JDA meeting on July 25, 2023, allowed Rambagh Golf Club to use public land at Central Park for parking facilities, in violation of existing laws and court orders. The group said that Central Park was public land meant for citizens and could not be used for benefit of a private institution.

Yogesh Yadav, president of the samiti, pointed out that several cases related to the golf club were pending before the high court and the Supreme Court, including public interest litigations. He said any administrative decision taken while the matter was sub judice amounted to interference in judicial proceedings.“Central Park is a shared public asset of Jaipur’s residents. Thousands of people use it daily for recreation and parking. Handing over public land for the benefit of a private club goes against the Constitution and the public interest doctrine,” Yadav said.
