Lucknow: Interested in photography but do not own an expensive camera? Your mobile phone can be the perfect place to begin, especially for street photography.According to noted photographer Atul Hundoo, a faculty member at Lucknow University, ordinary scenes captured through mobile phones can be transformed into meaningful visual stories through the effective use of light, angles and observation. At a recently held photography workshop at Kala Srot, Hundoo advised beginners to start with black-and-white photography to better understand light, shadows, shapes and composition. He said the exercise could easily be practised on a mobile phone using its monochrome mode.He further advised participants to focus on the basics rather than getting distracted by complex techniques and expensive equipment in the initial stages.Explaining the basics of mobile photography, Hundoo highlighted the importance of light, shadows, shapes and composition. “Mobile photographers should observe where the light is coming from and how it falls on the subject. Front light can reveal details, side light can create shadows and depth, while backlighting can produce silhouettes. Changing the position of the phone can therefore completely alter the mood of a photograph,” he said.Hundoo added that angles also play a key role in photography. A low-angle shot can make a subject appear powerful, while a high-angle shot can create a different perspective.
